HE is more known for his achievements on two wheels than four, so far at least.

But that did not stop Sir Chris Hoy lending a touch of Olympian class to the launch of Macklin Motors’ latest showroom in Glasgow.

Sir Chris, one of Britain’s most successful Olympians with six gold medals and one silver, performed the official opening duties on Macklin’s £5 million Nissan dealership in Port Dundas.

The prestigious showroom, crowned by an eight-storey glass display tower, launched after a 12-month building project.

Edinburgh-born Sir Chris, who swapped his bike for a rally car when he completed motorsport’s Le Mans 24 Hours rally earlier this year, was not the only celebrity at the Macklin launch. He was joined by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin, who treated guests to a culinary masterclass.

Sir Chris said: “It was fantastic to be involved in the official opening of Macklin Motors Nissan Glasgow Central. This is a unique car dealership, unlike any other I’ve seen before and really showcases the Nissan brand.”

Macklin, part of Vertu Motors, declared that the showroom, which rises above the M8 motorway, is the “premier destination” for Nissan customers in Scotland. Chief operations officer David Crane said: “The opening of Macklin Motors Nissan Glasgow Central is a significant milestone for Macklin Motors in Glasgow, which demonstrates our commitment and confidence in the city.

“This official opening is the culmination of more than two years of hard work by hundreds of people and an investment of millions of pounds.”
