Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1020 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £126 per head and 276.3p per kg to average 230p (+22p on the week), while a prime lamb fetched £128.50 or 247.1p.
With numbers proving hard to source the small offering of 183 cast sheep were fully £8 dearer on the week with 128 heavy ewes selling to £135.50 for a Texel and averaging £96.20, while 55 light/export-type ewes peaked at £81.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £55.50.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 44 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 265p per kg and an average of 225p (-1p), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 228p (+1p).
In the rough ring 27 beef cows sold to 195p and averaged 152p (-2p).
There were also 769 prime hoggs that sold to £152 and 283p to average 239p (+7p).
A nice show of 421 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £147 for Texels and average £89, while light ewes peaked at £125 for a Cheviot and levelled at £49.
The firm also sold 9 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 235.5p and an average of 206.6p (-7.3p), while 31 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 237.5p and levelled at 214.7p (+2.9p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 172.5p and averaged 168.2p (-5.2p). Eighteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 237.5p and averaged 202.7p (+7.3p), while 26 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 205.5p and levelled at 171.5p (+10.4p).
In the rough ring 103 beef cows sold to 208.5p and averaged 148.9p (+1.5p), while 197 dairy cows peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 118.2p (-0.2p). Eight bulls sold to 171.5p and averaged 138.7p (-0.9p).
There were also 1183 prime hoggs that sold to £122.80 and 279.1p to average 228.3p (-8.9p), while 25 prime lambs peaked at £139.80 and 297.4p to level at 242.8p (-23p).
In the cast sheep section 144 heavy ewes sold to £125 for Texels and averaged £80.89, while 24 light ewes peaked at £68.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £47.62.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 258p and an average of 238.2p (-2.4p) while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224p and levelled at 216.6p (+2.1p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 145.5p and averaged 134.5p (-9.7p).
In the rough ring 15 beef cows averaged 141.3p (+5p) and 37 dairy cows levelled at 117.6p (+5.6p).
The firm also sold 1300 prime hoggs to a top of £142.50 and 331p to average 227p (+3p), while 4 prime lambs peaked at £123.50 and 233p to level at 225p.
Ninety-two heavy cast ewes sold to £158.50 for a Texel and averaged £93.31, while 157 light ewes peaked at £69.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £56.16.
