A PERTH glazing company has joined the growing number of employee-owned businesses in Scotland, with 12 staff becoming owners.

Balhousie Glazing, founded in 1993 by Malcolm Sweeney and Drew Hay, and has a turnover of £1,25 million. An Employee Ownership Trust has been formed, holding 100 per cent of the shares on behalf of the employees.

Mr Sweeney and Mr Hay took the decision to go down the employee ownership route after attending Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS) seminar. CDS supported the firm’s transition to employee ownership.

The pair said they were inspired by Bentley’s Shopfitting, an employee-owned company in Dundee, whose financial director Bob Anderson spoked at the seminar.
