MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1093 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £99 per head and 206.3p per kg to average 172.5p (-2.9p on the week), while 52 prime lambs peaked at £113 and 237p to level at 219.1p (-11.1p).

There were also 390 cast sheep forward when all classes were dearer on the week, especially Blackface ewes. Heavy ewes sold to £132 for a pen of Texels and averaged £78.14, while light ewes peaked at £72.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £55.19.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 50 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 239p per kg and an average of 214.6p (-3.8p), while 24 prime bullocks peaked at 237p and levelled at 214.5p (-5p).

In the rough ring 16 beef cows averaged 144.7p (-2.9p).

There were also 619 prime hoggs that sold to £100 and 200p to average 165p (-11.1p), while 22 prime lambs levelled at 210.8p (+1.3p).

The 325 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £79, and light ewes level at £47.

The firm also sold seven prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 199.5p and an average of 168.1p (-42.3p), while 18 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 237.5p and levelled at 195.4p (-10.2p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 172.5p and averaged 156.5p (-12.3p). Forty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 239.5p and averaged 189.2p (-4.3p), while 46 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 183.5p and levelled at 155.8p (-7.8p).

In the rough ring 59 beef cows averaged 142.5p (-14.9p) and 180 dairy cows levelled at 112.9p (-6.2p).

There were also 1214 prime hoggs that sold to £95.80 and 218.4p to average 179.3p (+0.3p), while 66 prime lambs peaked at £123.50 and 294p to level at 211.1p (+17p).
