Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd held their annual show and sale of Texel prime lambs at Ayr on Monday. The champion pen was shown by Messrs R Anderson & Son, Oldwall Farm, Galston and went on to sell for £129 per head or 300p per kg, while the reserve ticket was awarded to Mr K Wilson, Yonderfield, West Kilbride. The 66 prime Texel show lambs averaged 235.6p.

There were also 958 prime lambs not shown that sold to 252.4p and averaged 222.8p (-24.3p on the week), while 69 prime hoggs peaked at 186.1p and levelled at 164.1p (-14.7p).

There were also 613 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes averaged £81.17, while light ewes levelled at £58.39.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 40 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 247p and an average of 225p (-13p), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 244p and levelled at 221p (-2p).

In the rough ring 6 dairy cows averaged 138p (no comparison) and47 beef cows levelled at 152.5p (+5.5p).

There were also 1353 prime lambs that sold to £122 and 274p to average £96 and 230.5p (-30.5p), while 241 prime hoggs peaked at £118 and 212p to level at £81 and 174p (-7p).

The 455 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £93, while light ewes levelled at £79.

The firm also sold 8 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 223.5p and an average of 196.1p (-1.9p), while 18 prime bullocks peaked at 221.5p and levelled at 198.3p (-4.1p). Nineteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 230.5p and averaged 195.3p (+4.2p), while 31 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 165.4p (-0.9p).

In the rough ring 115 beef cows sold to 219.5p and averaged 147.4p (-8.6p), while 194 dairy cows peaked at 172.5p and levelled at 121.9p (-0.9p). Fifteen bulls sold to 177.5p and averaged 144.5p (-1.3p).

There were also 1228 prime lambs that sold to £118.80 and 307.6p to average 236p (-22.8p), while 29 prime hoggs peaked at £88 and 161.9p to level at 148.5p (+5.9p).

A small show of 81 cast sheep saw heavy ewes average £83.32, while four light ewes levelled at £48.50.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 236.1p (-2.9p), while a prime beef-bred bullock fetched 234p and a couple of prime, B&W bullocks levelled at 142p.

In the rough ring 22 beef cows averaged 134p (-2.2p), and 28 dairy cows levelled at 114p (+8.8p).

There were also 831 prime lambs that sold to £118.50 and 267.1p to average 228.7p (-28.8p), while 263 prime hoggs peaked at £100 and 189.8p to level at 161.1p (-19.4p).

The 522 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £147.50 for Texels and average £82.54, while light ewes peaked at £76.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £55.97.
