C&D AUCTION Marts Ltd sold 65 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 257p per kg and an average of 200.3p (no change on the fortnight), while 73 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 278.9p and levelled at 212.3p (+3.1p). Twelve store, B&W bullocks sold to 183p and averaged 142.1p (-0.2p), while 34 store bulls peaked at 280p and levelled at 254.9p (+13.1p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,818 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £105 per head and 222.5p per kg to average 194.8p (+0.5p on the week and 28.1p on the corresponding sale last year).

The 572 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £110.50 for Texels and average £71.01, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £62.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £43.66.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 25 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 220p (-2p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 219p (-3p).

In the rough ring 56 beef cows sold to 183p and averaged 142p (+4p).

There were also 981 prime hoggs that sold to £122 and 236p to average 200.5p (no change).

A good show of 568 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £121 for Texels and average £83, while light ewes peaked at £67 for both Cheviots and Blackfaces and levelled at £42.

The firm also sold 13 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 245.5p and an average of 200.8p (-10.8p), while 13 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 233.5p and levelled at 197.6p (-7.4p). A couple of prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 173.5p and averaged 164.5p (+13.7p). Thirty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 238.5p and averaged 207p (+13.8p), while 33 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 194.5p and levelled at 164.7p (+7.3p).

In the rough ring 79 beef cows sold to 185.5p and averaged 135.1p (-4.8p), while 167 dairy cows peaked at 166.5p and levelled at 111.9p (+0.6p).

There were also 1983 prime hoggs that sold to £118.80 and 298.2p to average 207.4p (+3.1p).

A modest show of 149 heavy ewes sold to £121.50 for Texels and averaged £70.97, while 71 light ewes peaked at £66.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £5.14.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 27 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 230.3p (-2.1p), while five prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 226p and levelled at 210p (-3.1p). Four prime, B&W bullocks sold to 147.5p and averaged 142.6p (+2.1p).

In the rough ring 47 beef cows averaged 127p (-3p) and 44 dairy cows levelled at 109p (+8p).

There were also 2353 prime hoggs that sold to £107.50 and 256p to average 192p (-2.5p).
