I LIVE in the south of Ireland and have never visited Glasgow.

I once had an enjoyable visit to Edinburgh, but always understood that Glasgow was a gritty city, with two powerful football clubs who were divided by bitter sectarianism, and therefore best avoided.

I owe Glasgow an apology.

The reaction of the people of Glasgow to the death of Karen Buckley was truly wonderful and humbling ("Student's family join hundreds in vigil", The Herald, April 18).

I am sure that Karen's parents will suffer greatly, probably forever, as any parents would do if such an atrocity befell their family. I would like to think that they will eventually derive comfort from the wonderful outpouring of support and love which they received from the people of Glasgow.

I know that I will make every effort to visit Glasgow in the near future and hope to meet some of the citizens of Glasgow who were so generous in their support for Karen and her family.
