I SUSPECT Tracie Wright may be typical of many dog owners who think that their pets should be accorded many of the privileges of humans ("Customer left baffled by dog ban at Greyfriars Bobby bar", The Herald, August 26).

The Greyfriars Bobby gastronomic pub is a popular eating establishment which is perfectly within its rights to refuse entry to dogs on the grounds of hygiene alone. It also avoids the arrogant imposition by dog owners of "love me, love my dog" on other diners. Like the smoking ban, a ban on dogs in eating establishments should be universal (assistance dogs excepted) unless a special area is provided.
