So Dr Alan Turing has been awarded a Royal Pardon for his "criminal" behaviour in the fifties, because of his exceptional contribution to the Second World War efforts - well and good ("Homosexuality conviction pardon", The Herald, December 24).

What about the thousands of ordinary gay soldiers, sailors and airmen who weren't upper class, Cambridge-educated "good eggs", and who were bullied, persecuted and hounded (sometimes to death) because of their sexuality? Will they now be pardoned too? Don't hold your breath.
