Though I disagreed with her conclusion, I appreciated JK Rowling's detailed statement of her reasons for supporting a No vote in the independence referendum (JK Rowling and the Twitter storm, Letters, June 28).

I admire her Harry Potter books and feel they show admirable political and other insights. She identified with Scotland, whatever the result, and, unusually for a No spokesperson, admitted the possibility that she might be wrong. I deplore any personal attacks on her, whatever the beliefs of those making them. The measured and courteous responses which others made were ignored by those parts of the media which gave the attacks splash headlines.
