You are right to point out how reliant Israel is on the US but that nation's support is secure despite Obama's tantrums (Falling out?, The World, March 22).

With Hamas in control, the Palestinians' hopes for statehood cannot be realised. No-one can make peace while hostilities continue. To consider sanctions against Israel because they have chosen Netanyahu, contrary to the combined wisdom of Europe and the Obama administration, is undemocratic at best, verging on anti-Semitic at worst. There cannot be a different standard for Israel. Hamas is a deadly enemy none of us would want on our doorstep and Israel should not be punished for protecting her citizens.
