You quote a spokesman for the Forestry Commission Scotland stating that the amount of electricity generated by the expansion of wind farms on a forestry estate would be "enough to power one million homes a year" ("Revealed: Salmond's forest wind farm plans", The Herald, September 22).
Vattenfall, a Swedish company, has received permission from Aberdeenshire Council to erect 18 turbines in the publicly owned Clashindarroch forest. The nearest turbine will be one kilometre from my house, which has no mains electricity supply, nor will it receive any from the turbine development. Wind farms are ruining the environment, destroying wildlife and subjecting residents to noise pollution which is a significant health risk while the contribution to energy supplies is small. It is high time this policy was subjected to legal challenges.

It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
