LAST Friday at 5.30pm, a group of eight American students, over for a week visiting churches in Kirkintilloch, got off the train from Glasgow Queen Street at Lenzie.

One young man was carrying two bags of gifts for home after an enjoyable final shopping trip in Glasgow. The host families were there to collect them and became concerned when it was discovered that this young man had left his backpack in the overhead rack on the train, now departed towards Alloa.

He was due to fly back to the US on Saturday morning from Glasgow Airport, and it seemed unlikely that his bag and his possessions could be returned by then, if at all.

The group leader and the student headed for the ticket office at Lenzie to see if anything could be done.

The backpack, still with all its contents including an iPad, were located and returned to Lenzie station for collection within two hours. The visiting group were both grateful and impressed and the host families were relieved and would like to record their appreciation too. It's easy to criticise when things go wrong, but good to give praise where it is due.
