IT will surely come as a relief to your readers to know that Gatehouse Golf Club has met its corporation tax liability for 2012 in full.

After the burning of some midnight oil by our hard-pressed accountant we have, today, paid HMRC £2.60p.

Clearly Ed Miliband will be delighted as he is always on about businesses such as ourselves, Google, Starbucks et al not paying our share. George Osborne too will be feeling just that bit more comfortable knowing this contribution to reducing the deficit has been secured.

In the event of Scotland becoming fully independent in 2015 the news for the Exchequer is not so good. As I understand it would be Alex Salmond's intention to cut corporation tax by 2%. In which case our tax bill will slump to just £2.34p. A solid sum nevertheless with which sentiment, I am sure, the tax man will agree.
