THE Royal Mail decision to feature British comedy acts on stamps is no laughing matter ("Corbett and Connoly among stars to deliver comedy gold in new stamps", The Herald, April 1) .

Arguments will rage over their selection. Let me kick off the debate with my own suggestions .

Why no Tommy Cooper? From the 196's to his untimely death on stage in 1984 he was, in my view, the funniest and most likeable of all comedy acts on British television .

Why is Lenny Henry to be classed along with comedy greats such as Morecambe and Wise? Is it a PC thing?

Victoria Woods, yes. French and Saunders , no.

As for Norman Wisdom, he will no doubt garner the Albanian vote but he ceased being funny to me when I gave up short trousers .
