Complaints from cyclists in Edinburgh having difficulties with tram lines take the biscuit ("Tram lines danger for Edinburgh's cyclists", The Herald, November 20).

As a boy in Aberdeen (admittedly not yesterday) I cycled regularly across town to school and very early on learned to cope with tram lines and to treat them with respect.

More recently I have become a regular visitor to Basel in Switzerland where an extensive tramway network and hundreds of cyclists coexist amicably without problem – and frequently without special cycle lanes.

All I can say to the moaning minnies is: "Get on yer bike!"
