A SOLITARY second half goal from Dave Elebert separated the sides and that just about summed this match up.

The difference between Hamilton Accies and Dundee was wafer thin. Nevertheless, it was enough for the hosts, who got their first win, and too much for Dundee who have still to taste victory.

However, the visitors were the first to go close, Elebert getting himself in a fankle with a cross from the right deep inside his penalty area. With Bryan Deasley waiting to take advantage, keeper Dave McEwan came to the rescue.

Hamilton, though, had the better of the opportunities from then on, Javier Payo prodding a header wide and Mark Gilhaney striking trialist goalkeeper Chad Harper's right hand post.

After the break, the hosts eventually broke through, Elebert hitting the target in 52 minutes when he headed a Gilhaney cross beyond former Leeds United custodian Harper.

Dundee were desperately unlucky not to equalise when player-boss Alex Rae clipped the left post with a tremendous volley from 25-yards. Full-back Paul Dixon also came close for the Dens Parkers with an angled shot from inside the penalty area, which McEwan alertly stopped.

With just one goal separating the sides, this game was still very much alive and, as time ticked away, Beasley tested McEwan with a swerving shot from the edge of the box but the Hamilton keeper held it with the minimum of fuss.

In the end, Accies' boss Billy Reid was a relieved man. However, his Dundee counterpart Rae certainly was not smiling.
