Over the past couple of weeks we've seen the sun in Scotland.

Despite the fact it's since it's such a rarity,  it's still worth making some summer purchases.

I've seen some style hits and misses this week but was truly concerned when I spotted a gent in his 40s stomping down Buchanan street in Hawaiian shorts and not much else. It seems we need to address the dos and donts of men's casual wear... guys this one is for you.

As soon as the sun's rays appear the 'taps' come 'aff' and we're blinded by a sea of winter white skin. There's nothing wrong with basking in the sun but stripping off in town is likely to put people off their lunch. How about trying a summer polo shirt and denim shorts combo that will let you soak up the vitamin D without it all hanging out? Add a lightweight jacket in the evening to keep warm and avoid the midges.

Alternatively, if it's not shorts weather try a pair of lightweight chinos, navy T-shirt and comfortable flats. Up your style credentials with a tan leather belt and coordinating lightweight backpack. There's no harm in wearing matching accessories, just don't overdo it - one or two pieces is enough.

Try to avoid wearing black. It sounds obvious but black is an easy colour to wear and often ends up transitioning from your winter wardrobe to your summer one. Change things up with a colourful T-shirt or embrace colour gently by wearing a pair of bright socks under your jeans.

Lastly, always opt for breathable fabrics. I've seen so many men struggling in their long-sleeved shirts of late. Some people shy away from linen but a simple lightweight jacket can make life much more comfortable. I wouldn't recommend a full linen suit unless you want to look like a disheveled David Attenborough wannabe.

So, there you have it, a few tips to help you get through summer without an inappropriate skin flash in sight. Now you can stomp down the high street in comfort and leave the stripping off for your back garden.
