As last Saturday's look back at 2013 was done mostly through the prism of rapper Kanye West's various fashion pronouncements, it seems appropriate to stick with glass instruments and roll out the crystal ball for a peek into what the next 12 months hold for the fashion-forward gent.

Some of them might even come true.

All white Fashion forecasters say this every year but don't worry. The worst that will happen is Real Madrid win the Champion's League.

Yves Saint Laurent There are two biopics about the French designer due for release this year. Neither has official backing from the company that bears his name, but the eponymous one released in France this week at least has the blessing of Saint Laurent's partner, Pierre Berge. Much of it was shot in Marrakech, where he lived for many years, so add a 1960s Moroccan theme to your daily garb - a fez, perhaps? - and you'll be bang on trend.

Bomber jackets and fishing hats Hurrah! Some good news. Even better, a fashion look you can get from an army surplus store.

Double-breasted blazers and man bags See "all-white", above. Unlikely to get too far out of London.

Italy London's Victoria and Albert Museum turns its attention to all things Italian in the spring when it mounts The Glamour Of Italian Fashion 1945-2014. Gucci, Missoni, Armani, Versace, Prada … they're all there. Opens April 5.

Camouflage See bomber jackets and fishing hats, above. But remember: the rule about double denim is doubly true for cammo.

The Winter Olympics Now that Pussy Riot are out of jail, it's (almost) OK to admit we're looking forward to the upcoming Winter Olympics at Sochi in south-west Russia. The best thing about it, of course, is seeing who has the coolest gear. The Germans are ahead at the moment with rainbow-effect kit that has been taken as a political statement given Russia's recent anti-gay legislation. For the US team, Ralph Lauren has taken Dolly Parton's Coat Of Many Colours as his starting point, and designed a jacket that looks like a patchwork quilt.

Jeans with patches Whether it's an iron-on Motorhead patch on your back pocket or an exquisitely stitched paisley pattern insert showing through a ripped knee, adornment is the name of the game for 2014. Think David Cassidy-meets-Steve-Coogan-as-Tommy-Saxondale.

Baseball We've had 2013's NFL love-in, now it's time for America's other national game to find favour in the UK. They're selling Boston Red Sox jerseys in Urban Outfitters as we speak … time to dig out that old VHS copy of Field Of Dreams.

Colour The hot hues are Purple Haze, Placid Blue, Cayenne and Celosia, a kind of orange. Why not combine them and commission your own tartan?
