Wanna be in my clan? HeraldScotland's new street style blogger Nick Patrick takes to the streets of Glasgow to see how the city's residents are wearing their plaids...

When it comes to winter fashion there is one trend that is dominating the streets right now and that's tartan.  Everywhere you look you'll see someone sporting a variation of one of Scotland's most famous textiles.

It's a total tartan takeover with more scarves, shirts, shawls, and jackets than you can toss a caber at - not to mention the multitude of eye catching colours of tartan (or plaid to our American friends) on show, ranging from the more traditional setts to new, fun and colourful patterns.  It's safe to say that tartan is most definitely everywhere but the question is, how do you wear your tartan to be the bonniest of the crowd?

The influence of designers such as Saint Laurent, Mulberry, Givenchy, and Chanel's recent foray into the versatile world of tartan is still very present in the high street - which means getting your hands on that perfect plaid pea coat or tartan knit is as easy as finding a tin of shortbread on the royal mile.

What's great about tartan is that it can easily be adapted to work with almost any outfit in your winter wardrobe. The main tartan garment on the streets is definitely the oversized scarf; this super versatile accessory is perfect for winter as it can be worn in so many styles.

The most prominent way to wear your tartan scarf seems to be to almost not wear it, with many people opting to just drape it round the neck or over the shoulders  in a very casual manner. A definite no-go seems to be the Parisian knot (or European loop), which has been replaced by a double sided twist - with the scarf wrapped round the neck loosely.

And if you are looking for a super chic look then look no further than a scarf wrap - which is not only a very stylish option but a cosy one at that.
