Shimmer and shine at New York's Met Ball

The stars were out in force in New York this weekend to attend the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Known as the Met Ball, the annual event is America’s east coast’s answer to the Oscars, and attracted the majority of Hollywood’s A-list, as well as big names from the worlds of fashion and music.

Elegant understatement was sacrificed at this fashion industry showcase in favour of a bit of bling, with metallic colouring common to many outfits, including Cameron Diaz’s golden Cleopatra-style Stella McCartney dress, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s eye-catching silver Prada mini.

The ball marked the launch of the Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
