These wings get their flavour from resting overnight in an Asian-style marinade before they're baked to perfection.

Served with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and coriander they make a fabulous snack or main dish alongside a crisp green salad and blue cheese dressing or creme fraiche.

Chicken wings are widely available and inexpensive, or you can use chicken thighs or drum sticks.

Glazed chicken wings with honey and soya sauce

Serves 6

Marinade

30ml sesame oil

100ml light soy sauce

100g clear honey

110ml orange juice

80g soft brown sugar

1tsp five-spice powder

1.8kg chicken wings

Garnish

1tbsp freshly chopped coriander leaves

1tsp sesame seeds

In a large bowl, whisk the ingredients for the marinade together then add the chicken wings, coating the meat evenly. Leave to marinate overnight.

Set the oven to 200C/gas mark 6. Place the wings and marinade in a roasting tray, making sure the wings are evenly spread and covered, then roast them in the oven for approximately 1 hour, stirring the wings every 10 minutes or so to ensure they cook evenly.

The juices and marinade in the pan will reduce a little during the cooking process, but if the wings are cooked but not sticky after 1 hour carefully pour the liquid into a pan and boil until syrupy.

Remove the wings from the oven and pour the reduced sauce over them. Sprinkle the coriander and sesame seeds over the top and serve immediately.
