If it's cakey goodness you seek, there are a plethora of places that rise to the occasion.
This week, Yelp brings you a sugar rush courtesy of some of the best cake-stops in Glasgow and Edinburgh!
Cuckoo's Bakery, 150 Dundas Street, Edinburgh
This "little place of cakey heaven" is the spot for "cute seasonal cakes", according to Claire L. Special occasion sweet treats are "available for celebrating St Patrick's Day, Halloween, Christmas - which are usually works of art."
Cushion & Cake, 35 Old Dumbarton Road, Glasgow West End
'From the friendly staff to the pretty decor, from the beautiful teas to the amazing cakes - this is a real gem!' Alison M sampled 'a slice of apple & cinnamon cake' which 'put a big smile on my face and made me feel all warm and fuzzy!'
Loudons, 94B Fountainbridge, Edinburgh
Kelly F "spent time admiring the cake baking going on in their special kitchen" (all their cakes are baked on site in the cafe). She ended up eating too much and had to have her "delicious carrot cake" boxed up to take home!
The Yarn Cake, 148 Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow West End
Rocco G loves that 'all cakes are loving prepared on the premises by German born Antje so what you will get is real, authentic, German home-style baking.' So, 'relax, kick back, enjoy a coffee, watch the knitters knit and eat some fantastic baking!'
Mimi's Bakehouse, 63 Shore, Leith, Edinburgh
After hearing all her friends "rave about it", Georgina R recommends that you "treat yourself with the champagne version of afternoon tea" - but watch out, as it's a very popular place! "The whole time we were are Mimi's there was a massive queue out the door!"
Lovecrumbs, 155 West Port, Edinburgh
"An absolute haven for cake and sugar lovers everywhere," declares Sara C, who's a big fan of the "amazing array of cakes and scones" and the charming interior: "There's definitely an 'at your cool grandmother's house' theme going on", she shares.
Little Botanica, 741 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow South Side
Jennie H raves about the 'white picket fence outside, crafts for sale inside, flowers, music, tea and cake (you have to see the size of the Malteaser cake slices!) - it's an eclectic and unique mix!'
Falko Konditormeister, 185 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh
"It is difficult to get it right," admits Tanja R, speaking about "traditional Viennese Sachertorte", a kind of chocolate cake famously made in the Austrian Hotel Sacher. "Some coffee shops sell this cake too dry, but here it was prepared it as it should be, using the right amount of ingredients."
Artisan Roast, 15-17 Gibson Street, Glasgow West End
'What impressed me most' says Ryan W, 'were the cakes. I had a chocolate brownie with peanut butter filling which was amazing as well as some vegan blueberry cake with lime icing!'
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
