From its denunciation of vowels to its charismatic and tattooed waiter, Glasgow's latest burger joint BRGR shows all the signs of being achingly 21st century.

Customers eat in a canteen-style restaurant and feast on lamb, chicken or/and beef patties, with sides in the form of sweet potato fries, mac 'n' cheese and corn on the cob.

A novel concept at BRGR is its 'hawders' - sturdy paper scoops in which to place mammoth burgers to avoid disintegration and keep fingers clean.

The haiku

Slayed by cardboard claw,

Smoked onions admit defeat.

Who's crying now, eh?

Dinner for two including the Barbie - a beef patty topped with onions rings, smoked onions, pickles and lettuce - and the Shroom with a Pew - a panko-breaded Portobello mushroom topped with mac 'n' cheese sauce - costs around £30 at BRGR, 526 Great Western Road, Glasgow G12 8EL. @BRGRgla
