MY property of the week is in the Fife conservation area of Lower Largo, an ancient fishing village famously known as the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk in 1676.
Selkirk provided the inspiration for Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe and a signpost at the harbour points in the direction of the Juan Fernandez Islands some 7,000 miles distant where Selkirk spent several years as a castaway.
A private garden with direct beach access and great views across the Firth of Forth are just two incentives to buy the first floor apartment within Balguthrie, a character property that dates back to circa 1737 and was originally two cottages made into one around 50 years ago.
