RODDY MacLeod MBE has been crowned the 2016 Glenfiddich Piping Champion.

This comes as the most prestigious competition in the piping world enters its 43rd year.

Taking place against the beautiful setting of Blair Castle, Roddy was competing against the world’s most current highly acclaimed pipers to claim the title.

As well as being the overall winner, Roddy Macleod of Glasgow came first in Piobaireachd.

He was followed by second place winner Stuart Liddell and Iain Speirs who came third.

For March, Strathspey and Reel, Willie McCallum claimed the top spot while Bruce Gandy was second and Angus MacColl came third.

Speaking about his win, Roddy said: "Taking part is always a highlight of the year for whoever is lucky enough to earn their place.

"It’s always an honour to play and compete alongside great talent."

The Glenfiddich Piping Championship was established in 1974 to bring together the world’s finest pipers and witness some of the finest renditions of the ancient and traditional piobaireachd (the great music) and the ceol beag (the little music).

Competitors are invited to compete having won prestigious accolades at other piping events during the last year.

All competitors are already champions before coming to Blair Atholl, but competing at the Glenfiddich, pits champion against champion as each piper competes for piping’s ultimate prize and recognition.
