As a scrawny kid, high school was tough to negotiate. Having my younger sister start school early and in all my classes, did little for my already ailing street cred.
One of the most humiliating moments, though, came was when I was asked to take AV equipment from a classroom to an administration building at the other end of the campus.
I resembled a donkey on an advert for animal cruelty charities. Hauling what felt like three times my body weight, strangled by equipment bag straps that scraped the ground. As I slowly plodded my way through the school, I became intently aware of the stares of copious eyes searing my skin.
Four classes had decided that their lessons were of secondary importance to my struggle. Invariably a series of loud heckles cranked into gear and continued well after I was out of sight.
Any relief at reaching my destination was short-lived, however, with the realisation that I had somehow lost the projector along the way, the strap had snapped which meant retracing my steps through the jeering gauntlet.
In the years since, I've not had much fondness for the genre of projectors. Fortunately, technology has advanced and the proportions of such devices have diminished dramatically.
Acer's latest business projector the C205 LED is barely the length of a smartphone and the width of two pencils. Its minimalist look is pleasing to look at while providing a less intimidating user experience than most I've viewed recently.
Good points
The size is ideal for travelling light to a meeting as you can just pop the C205 into a pocket with only an accompanying data cable needed to operate it. The built-in rechargeable battery lasts for about two hours which is more than enough time for most presentations so you can leave any unnecessary power cables at the office.
The LED projection quality is admirable for something so diminutive and makes it perfect for smaller rooms. When viewed at roughly 40 inches in size even the smallest detail is crystal clear and would make a terrific replacement for smaller hotel televisions when on holiday.
The audio is equally impressive and gives the Acer the advantage over similar or palm-sized devices which don't tend to project sound any further than row six.
Bad points
Limited resolution and connectivity options as only HDMI and MHL are supported so older input devices might struggle to connect.
Best for
Business types giving presentations in small rooms. Also ideal for home cinema viewing due to its simple to use interface and plug and play operation.
Avoid if
Intending to present to a large hall or auditorium as resolution will be too small and audio lacking in that type of impact.
Score 8/10, a no-nonsense work aid.
