With recent weather leaving us all longing for summer, what better way to beat the cold weather blues than to indulge in some summer holiday shopping from the comfort of your couch?
All the shops have started to release their beachwear ranges - and buying the perfect bikini or swimsuit is the best form of escapism from freezing temperatures and multiple layers!
This year there are so many styles to choose from and some great budget friendly pieces. Stylish beachwear need no longer be reserved only for celebrities. With some excellent high street offerings, there is absolutely no excuse to not look your best for Summer 2013.
I’ve picked my eight favourite bikinis and swimsuits to give you some ideas for your holiday wardrobe:
This bikini is perfect for those of us who are into the streetwear trend, due to the red bandana print. If you take your style inspiration from the likes of Rihanna and Rita - this one is perfect for you. Ditch the floaty kaftans and style these with your cut off dungarees.
Top £16, Bottoms £10 - Both River Island
Embellishment is the most practical way to look glamourous on the beach - wearing necklaces and bracelets is purely going to give you funny tan lines! Keep the beads and sparkle to your bikini. This one channels the global traveller trend as well as adding some glamour.
Top £22, Bottoms £16 - Both River Island
This backless, cut out trikini from Oysho is perfect for those who like the idea of a bikini, but maybe don’t feel all that confident in one. The extra panel on the tummy gives you that extra little bit of material and the subtle frills soften the look.
£27.99 from Oysho
This bright swimsuit from Monki is proof that one pieces are definitely not only for those looking to blend into the background. This piece is bold, attention grabbing and looks much more high-end than its price tag.
£20 from Monki
High-waisted bikinis are a really flattering way to wear two pieces, the cut on this bikini looks vintage, however, the bright florals look bang up to date - a perfect contrast.
Top £12, Bottoms £8 - Both from Monki
This bikini looks like it could be from Hervé Léger, who tend to retail their swimwear at around £600. So for a designer look, head to H&M and snap this one up - it comes in two colourways.
Top £12.99, Bottoms £6.99 - Both from H&M
This classic red swimsuit is perfect for those of us who fancy ourselves as retro pin up girls, the shape is really flattering and will make the most of your curves. This swimsuit should be styled with some fabulous cat’s eye sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat.
£35.00 from Motel @ ASOS
Monochrome beachwear is classic and will always look chic. Set your holiday tan off perfectly with this black and white polka dot bikini from Miss Selfridge. However, this will look awful with sunburn so make sure you have a stylish bag to keep your sun cream in!
£26 from Miss Selfridge
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
