L'Escargot Bleu

56 Broughton Street, Edinburgh

"For dessert it was, of course, the chocolate tart," shrugs Nadya S, as though it goes without saying. It's served with créme anglaise and is "very French, very rich and very dark".

Brian Maule at Chardon d'Or

176 West Regent Street, Glasgow

Keren N recommends this "lovely special-occasion restaurant, with great service, atmosphere and delicious food". The dessert menu features milk chocolate and coffee parfait and cookie crumble with orange gel.

Chez Jules

109 Hanover Street, Edinburgh

Jonny M is "always impressed by the quality and consistency" of the cooking at this French restaurant. The "dark and rich" chocolate mousse he swiped a taste of from a friend "was clearly made with a very high cocoa solids chocolate".

Michelle M went for the "Grand Dessert for Two which consisted of: chocolate & chestnut brownie, white chocolate & caramel bavoise, vanilla pod crème brûlée with a walnut biscotti, iced popcorn parfait with a salted caramel foam, plum crumble, cherry oil cake & a chocolate ice cream sundae with profiteroles!"

Marj C says "their chocolate collection is a sight to behold, with everything from homemade selections for special occasions to 'retro' sweets in bags. They have some continental collections and chocolate bouquets with a selection of praline chocolates in the shape of flowers".

"Howies beautifully presents delicious flavours of Scotland", says Valerie M, and the "dessert of chocolate truffle and Oloroso whisky torte" is no exception. The winter twist on this is the addition of orange and cardamom Chantilly cream.
