Scotland’s biggest city is one of six across the UK hosting flagship events for the Sports Relief charity appeal this weekend. 2 Edinburgh Yarn Festival

Get crafty with a visit to this annual celebration of knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving and felting. Featuring two days packed with how-to classes and short workshops, there’s also huge marketplace featuring wool, books, patterns and supplies from 100 selected vendors. 3 Museum Lates: Ice and Fire

Presented as part of British Science Week, this evening of after-hours fun and exploration is inspired by the planet-shaping forces of extreme heat and severe cold. Open from 6pm, attractions include a Volcanoes vs Glaciers science show plus live experiments, creature handling, and music. For over 18s only, tickets are £4-£6. 4 Festival of Silent Cinema

Another round of rarely-seen classics and forgotten gems from the pioneering days of film at Scotland’s oldest purpose-built cinema. Celebrating its sixth year, the 2016 festival programme includes work from China, the USSR, Germany and the USA as well as the Scottish Screen and BFI National Archive. 5 Ice Factor Kinochleven

Spring is just around the corner, but Scotland’s winter sports scene gets a late season boost this week with the re-opening of the National Ice Climbing Centre at Kinlochleven. Closed for repairs after a fire last July, the world's largest indoor ice-climbing facility offers everyone from novices to experts a chance to practice on 14-metre high ice and rock walls. 6 Comic Invention

Delve into the cultural and historical background to graphic narrative - comics to you and me - with this major new spring exhibition at Scotland’s oldest public museum. Taking a broad look back at the roots of the artform from ancient Greece right up to the modern day, material on display includes work by influential 18th century artist William Hogarth, and The Glasgow Looking Glass - an 1825 publication described the world’s oldest comic. Proclaimed to be the most dangerous show the UK has ever seen, this glitzy new West End-style tour assembles a handful of the most talented magicians around for an action-packed production full of death-defying stunts, technological trickery, stage illusions and close-up magic. 8 Jazz on The Green

The granite city’s biggest free music event and an annual highlight of Aberdeen Jazz Festival, this laid back Sunday afternoon of live performance brings a range of top jazz, blues, funk, soul, R&B, swing, bop, vocal and big band acts to eight indoor and outdoor stages around the Merchant’s Quarter. 9 Dumfries and Galloway Environmental Fair

A great free option for families in the south west of Scotland, this day of indoor and outdoor activities, stalls and attractions brings together more than 50 local and national environmental organisations to celebrate nature and wildlife in Dumfries and Galloway. 10 Epic Chalk Day
