Dean McAdam's verdict: 4 stars

This time last year, Lucy Spraggan made a huge impression on the X-Factor judges with her first televised audition. Now, fresh from signing a deal with Columbia Records and completing one of the final stops of a UK tour in Glasgow, it all seems like a world away.

In truth, this is a far more comfortable environment for the 21 year-old from Sheffield - her down-to-earth and sometimes gritty lyrics appear at odds with performing on primetime Saturday night television.

The majority of Spraggan's set is taken from her independently released 2011 album, Top Room At The Zoo, including the infectious Last Night, a witty and entirely relatable take on the morning after a hard drinking session - with subsequent regret at inevitable flashbacks of the night before.

Twin highlights of a determined performance are two of her more thoughtful pieces. A passionate vocal complements the raw lyrical edge of Tea and Toast's account of one man's journey through life from losing his mother at birth to losing his beloved wife.

You're Too Young - revealingly self-penned at the age of 16 - presents the dangers of angry, disaffected youth through the character of Chelsea, who succumbs to knife crime. Again, this is delivered succinctly and sadly, wholly justifying the delicate subject matter.

The slightly forgettable Butterflies is a rare low-key moment, whilst the choice of comedy song Jeremy Kyle to finish a strong set could be considered an aberration.

This is brought into sharp focus by the upbeat tempo and sharp, memorable chorus of the as-yet unreleased Lighthouse, the gig's penultimate song, which has the potential to be one of the most successful singles of the summer.
