David Elms: Mister Boy performs at Pleasance Below – Pleasance Courtyard on August 28 – 31.

Tell us about your Fringe show

My show is a stand-up-with-guitar-and-a-bit-of-character-and-improv-audience-work show. It's about my wife and my hairdresser.

Best thing about the Fringe?

Having something to do all the time.

Worst thing about the Fringe?

Getting sucked into a competitive mindset.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

This is my 6th year, so I guess I'm just about graduating from newbie to regular, another 6 until I'm a veteran. Though I've managed to pack in a few shows each time. This year I'm involved in my 12th and 13th shows.

Favourite Fringe venue?

Pleasance Upstairs. Big enough to get raucous, small enough to be intimate. Forces the performer to open up to three sides. Only four or five bad seats. Phil Wang is in there this year, the lucky pig.

Best Fringe memory?

Gasssshhhhhh. It's all one long blur. My first performance of my first solo show was pretty special.

Best heckle?

Heckles are never good. Least worst one... No they're always bad.

Craziest on stage experience?

A drunk audience member took a running jump at me when I was doing an improv show once. I was lying on the floor. I had to pretend that it didn't really really hurt.

What’s on your rider?

Sick bag.

How do you wind down after a show?

Until last year it was 'one crisp lager'. But last year I had to run over and start getting ready for the next show. Same this year. Maybe a pint after that sometimes, but I worry about my voice, drinking in loud bars.

What do you love about Scotland?

The air. And ain't the money funny?

What do you like about Edinburgh?

It's very dramatic. The weather, the landscape, the architecture, the streets. You can always see the sea or the hills. All the memories too, I went to university in Edinburgh and I'm so glad to always have an excuse to go back. Comedy-wise, it's the New York to London's LA.

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Had a wee dram.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

They don't love English people talking about them or what they're like. Or saying things like 'wee dram'.

Favourite joke?

‘When I said I wanted to be a comedian they laughed, well they're not laughing now.’ - Bob Monkhouse
