THE Scottish Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of Benjamin Marquise Gilmore as co-leader, working alongside Stephanie Gonley. His first concert as leader will be at the start of December when Robin Ticciati conducts a programme of Mozart Piano Concertos with soloist Kristian Bezuidenhout, and music by Thomas Ades and Helen Grime. A graduate of the Menuhin School and Vienna Conservatory, Gilmore is also a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and in demand as a soloist and chamber musician.

He has guest-led the orchestra on a number of occasions in recent months, and SCO chief executive Gavin Reid said: "His naturally inclusive leadership style make him the right person to lead the SCO." The violinist said: "From the first time I played with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra I felt an immediate rapport, both musically and personally."
