OUSTED Rangers chief executive Charles Green said he would be happy to return to the Ibrox boardroom as Mike Ashley's representative, adding that the new regime were still dependent on the tycoon's cash.

Mr Green, who was sacked as Rangers chief executive in 2013 before returning briefly as a consultant to the club, said the Sports Direct boss is entitled to two directors at the club under his £10 million loan deal.

The Yorkshireman added: "I'm happy to go back and represent Ashley. I can imagine that being fun."

Mr Green, 61, also took a jibe at new Ibrox kingpin Dave King and his board, who won a landslide victory to take control of the boardroom earlier this month.

He said: Mike Ashley hasn't gone away. The reality is that today Rangers are making a cup of coffee using Ashley's money. He's put a loan in there and as far as I'm aware - and I do apologise if things have changed in the last couple of days - but the money they are spending today, the wages they paid yesterday, they used Ashley's money to pay that."

Mr Green was speaking for the first time since shareholders voted for South African businessman, Mr King, to take over.

Mr King appointed Paul Murray as interim chairman and turfed billionaire Mr Ashley's allies Derek Llambias and Barry Leach off the board.

Mr Green said if Dave King and Paul Murray have the funds they should pay back the Sports Direct boss or accept his choices in the boardroom - which he said was part of the Newcastle United owner's loan deal.

He added: "If Paul Murray and Dave King have really got cash, I suspect this week they'll pay Ashley his money back and then put their money in instead to replace it.

"If not, I suspect on Monday, they'll be inviting Ashley to appoint two new directors. For me, he has to have two on the board because you can't have people, like Sandy Easdale and him say, with 34 per cent of shares sat on the outside."
