CRAIG BREWSTER last night confirmed he has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant manager's post at old club Raith Rovers.

The 48-year-old, who is currently working as a youth coach at Brighton, is one of 120 to have applied for the job since Grant Murray was sacked last Monday following a three-year tenure. Brewster, who had two spells as manager at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, as well as a short stint at former club Dundee United, is eager to return to the dugout after four-and-a-half years away from the Scottish game.

The ex-Hibernian and Dunfermline striker last worked in Scotland in 2010 when he was No.2 to Derek Adams at Ross County but since then has had a spell as first-team coach at Crawley Town as he tried to make his way in English football.

He said: "I have sent in my application to Raith Rovers because I believe it would be a great opportunity and we will see what happens next. I feel the time is right for me to get back into management. I feel I'm ready and I would love the chance to prove myself again, especially at a good club like Raith."

The Fife outfit are this week in the process of whittling down 120 applications for the job from as far afield as the Pacific Islands and Central America. In a statement issued yesterday, the Kirkcaldy club revealed they had fielded interest in the post from six former Raith players and four managers with international experience.

They are expected to begin interviewing next week and hope to have an appointment made before the end of the month.

A spokesman said: "We have narrowed things down considerably and the selection process will continue next week with a view to announcing an appointment hopefully within the next fortnight, although it will take as long as it takes to get the right person."
