FIFE police making inquiries into the disappearance of 22-year-old

Paul West from St Andrews University, who vanished almost three weeks

ago, said yesterday that a second student had now been reported missing.

They say, however, that there is no connection between the

disappearance of Mr West and that of 19-year-old Afshin Shahriari, who

has been missing since May 15.

Officers have now interviewed almost 200 students during the

investigation into the disappearance of Mr West.

He vanished during the early hours of May 3 after leaving a charity

discotheque on the West Sands at St Andrews where he had been

celebrating his birthday with friends.

Fellow students and friends who attended the disco have been

questioned by police but no trace of the fourth-year student has been

found.

He lives in a flat in the centre of St Andrews during term, and his

home is in Edinburgh.

There have been no reported sightings of him after he was seen leaving

the disco and police are anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen

him afterwards.

He is clean-shaven, 6ft 10ins tall, has dark-brown hair with a side

parting, and is of medium build. He was wearing a blue-purple cotton

anorak, white T-shirt with the inscription California, and jeans and

trainers.

Mr Shahriari disappeared from his university residence at Hepburn Hall

several days ago. His family home is in Glasgow.

He is described as about 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build with short,

black curly hair. He usually has several days of facial growth. When

last seen he was wearing a khaki green hooded parka, green track suit

bottoms, and brown suede shoes.
