MOST dads expect a lie-in on Father's Day, but almost 4000 men pounded the pavements in the sixth Men's Health Forum 10k.

Starting and ending in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park on the city’s south side, it was the event’s biggest field yet.

One plucky contender was Hugh Turner, 83, who completed the course in less than an hour.

Originally from Govan, the former Cameron Highlander now lives in Nottingham and travels back to Scotland every year to take part. He camps out in the park the night before the event and hopes to take part in the New York marathon.

The youngest runner was Callum Sharp who celebrated his 15th birthday by completing the course in 49 minutes, 21 seconds.

The winner was David Millar who ran it in 31 minutes and 25 seconds, less than a minute outside the 30 minutes, 47 seconds course record.

Tim Street, chairman of Men’s Health Forum Scotland, said: “It was great to see thousands of men let their feet do the talking. Guys of all ages and fitness levels have trained for weeks and months and we applaud them for their commitment to improving their health and taking part in the Men’s 10k.

“As wave after wave of guys ran or walked across the finish line there was a real sense of a collective achievement that flies in the face of the appalling health image of Scottish men.

“These men are not out of the ordinary, they are fathers, brothers, sons and friends from communities across Scotland.

“They prove that guys will try and do something healthy when they are given the opportunity and support to do so.”
