Five Scottish bands and three DJs are to perform at one of the world's biggest music showcase festivals this year.

The annual South by Southwest (SXSW) event in Austin, Texas, is regarded as one of the most important platforms for new music talent.

Supported by Creative Scotland, The View, Camera Obscura, Young Fathers, PAWS, Kassidy, Jackmaster and JD Twitch and JG Wilkes from Optimo will appear alongside other Scottish artists in two Scottish concerts at the festival.

The festival and convention take place from March 8 to March 17. The event's organisers predict 19,000 music industry professionals including 3000 media representatives attend the annual events, as well as thousands of music fans.

Showcasing Scotland at SXSW Music takes place at the British Music Embassy on March 13 and March 15.

Other Scottish bands, including Holy Esque, Tango in the Attic, and Chvrches, will also perform at Showcasing Scotland or in other venues during the festival.

This will be the 27th SXSW and it is the third year in which bands have been supported to attend by Creative Scotland.

Creative Scotland's Caroline Parkinson said: "Showcasing at SXSW provides unique opportunities for bands – whether making new connections, discussing deals or sowing the seeds for future collaborations."
