The SSE Hydro in Glasgow is to host a week-long visit from the world-famous Cirque du Soleil next year, with their production of Dralion undertaking its first UK arena tour to mark its 15th anniversary.
Dralion fuses the 3000 year-old tradition of Chinese acrobatic arts with the multidisciplinary approach of Cirque du Soleil.
It draws its inspiration from Eastern philosophy and its quest for harmony between humans and nature. The show's name is derived from its two emblematic creatures: the dragon, symbolising the east, and the lion, symbolising the west.
In Dralion, (pronounced "Dra-lee-on"), the four elements that govern the natural order take on a human form. Each element is represented by its own evocative colour: air is blue; water is green; fire is red; earth is ochre. In the world of Dralion, cultures blend, Man and Nature are one, and balance is achieved.
Dralion artistic director Mark Shaub said: "We are very excited to be bringing Dralion to Great Britain next spring. Many of our cast and crew have connections to Great Britain and are looking forward to presenting the show to audiences there.
"Dralion is a wonderful blend of amazing acrobatics, stunning choreography, live music with hilarious clowns. It's a feast of colour and emotions that will surely appeal to British audiences".
The show will be at the Hydro from May 8-11 next year. Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Friday November 1, priced £56. Pre-sale tickets will also be available to those registered from 9am, Tuesday October 29.
From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Quebec-based Cirque du Soleil has played to more than 100 million spectators in more than 300 cities in over 40 countries on six continents.
The company has 5000 employees, including more than 1300 performing artists from close to 50 different countries.
