A car was also found to have crashed into a metal barrier along the roadside.

The male van driver and the female car driver were rescued from their vehicles by fire crews and checked over by paramedics.

The car driver was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. It is not thought anyone was seriously hurt.

There was not thought to have been any serious structural damage to the house.

A fire service spokesman said the road was on the way to a primary school and added: "Had this incident occurred slightly later in the morning the outcome could have been much worse."
