A WOMAN who slashed a father in the neck then left him to die has been jailed for five years.

Nicola McKelvie, 25, attacked Daniel McEwan at a flat in Knightswood, Glasgow.

The 47-year-old was later found by witnesses, but he did not survive his injuries.

McKelvie, who was originally accused of murder, returned to the High Court in Glasgow after earlier pleading guilty to culpable homicide.

Judge Lady Wise told her: "Your actions were violent and completely reckless. The victim was left seriously injured lying on the floor."

The court previously heard McKelvie had been at another man's flat in Kirkton Avenue along with Mr McEwan and Ian Fleming, 31, last June 17.

It was alleged Mr McEwan, who kept in poor health and rarely left his home, touched McKelvie on the chest while at the property. This prompted Fleming to kick the father-of-two before Mr McEwan went to leave the flat. McKelvie followed him out and struck her victim on the throat with a piece of glass.

A dying Mr McKelvie was then abandoned before a resident found him. Paramedics and police were unable to save him.

McKelvie, also of Kirkton Avenue, was arrested and initially blamed Ian Fleming for the killing.

Derek Ogg, QC, defending, said: "The incident is very much still a blur to her."

Fleming was also due to stand trial for murder, but prosecutors accepted a guilty plea to assault.

At the last hearing, Lady Wise sentenced him to nine months, but backdated the term until last August, effectively meaning he was freed.
