A man has been reported for dangerous driving after allegedly playing the "NekNomination" game while at the wheel.

NekNomination is a social media craze thought to have originated in Australia, where young people are "nominated" to down strong drinks and carry out dares. Participants often share their exploits online after filming them on mobile phones.

Footage of a 42-year-old driver allegedly taking part in the game while at the wheel of a car in the Lockerbie area was shown to police, who were able to identify him.

A police spokesman said: "A 42-year-old man from Johnstonebridge is being reported to the procurator fiscal for dangerous driving after the discovery of a NekNomination piece of video footage shown to Police Scotland officers.

"The man, who was the driver of a car in the footage, has been traced."

Police Scotland have issued appeals urging people to consider their safety and that of others before taking part in such games.
