The owner of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill chain is stranded in the Middle East after being injured in an accident.

Philip Day, 48, has been told he cannot travel after undergoing surgery to his collar bone in Dubai last month.

Details of his situation emerged at Dumfries Sheriff Court yesterday when he was due to appear on a charge of driving without due care and attention.

Day's QC, Iain Duguid, told the court: "Mr Day had surgery to correct an injury to his collar bone and he has been advised not to travel for six weeks."

At a hearing last year Day admitted driving at 83mph and overtaking unsafely on the A7 between Auchenroch and Canonbie on February 9, 2012.
