Sculptor Jason Paterson gives a final polish to his futuristic work of art that looks as if it could have come from a sci-fi movie.

The £250,000 Energy Sculpture represents a steel palm tree and is bound for the heat of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

Paterson, who operates out of a workshop in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, is noted as a metalwork specialist having created sculptures, staircases, gates and railings. It will take a crane to get it on a plane or boat as the 33ft-high object weighs two-and-a-half tonnes.
