DEMONSTRATORS have taken part in a May Day march which began with a food bank collection in Glasgow's George Square.

People taking part gathered before a rally yesterday at the city's O2 Academy as they voiced their opposition to austerity measures and their solidarity with the trade union movement.

Jennifer McCarey, chair of Glasgow Trades Union Council, said: "This year's May Day sends a message to those struggling in our city. That our movement stands by you. We offer practical support by donations of a bag of messages to the city."
