A new book which will tell the story of Glasgow’s experience as Commonwealth Games host city, across 12 days in July and August 2014, will be released later this year.

Commissioned by Glasgow City Council, Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games: Behind the Scenes is written by Robert Rogerson, published by Freight Books of Glasgow, and will be released on October 29.

It features images taken by photographers from The Herald and Evening Times newspapers during the Commonwealth Games.

Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games: Behind the Scenes explores how Glasgow won the right to host the Games, details the task of planning and preparing for the Games and how the city staged the celebrations.

The book speaks to people involved in a variety of organisations including Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee, Scottish Government and Commonwealth Games Scotland.

Councillor Archie Graham, depute leader of Glasgow City Council and the chair of Glasgow Life said: “The best ever Commonwealth Games showcased Glasgow as a modern and vibrant city on a global stage.

"This book goes behind the scenes to detail the enormous effort and determination that went into staging the Games and making them the huge success they became. "It will serve not only as a wonderful reminder of the great moments, performances and occasions which so many people enjoyed across the world but also of how Glasgow transformed the Commonwealth Games."

Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games: The Inside Story will be released on 29 October 2015.
