A MOTORIST and a dog were cut free from a car after it crashed into a house.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the driver and the pet after the incident in Dumfries and Galloway.

Crews were sent to Southwick Road in Dalbeattie after being alerted by ambulance control.

It happened at around 6pm on Sunday.

Crew Manager Norman Neilson, the incident commander, said: "When we arrived we found there was one person inside the car as well as a dog.

"Firefighters stabilised the vehicle and took the passenger-side door off to give paramedics access to the casualty.

"We assisted them in extricating the driver who was then taken to hospital by ambulance. The dog appeared well."
