A MAN has spoken of his heartbreak after his wife died after collapsing behind the wheel of her car on her way home from work.
Barbara McGuire, 50, died following the road accident accident in Glasgow as she returned home from her job at arms length organisation City Building.
The long-serving employee became ill at work and decided to drive herself home on July 20, but shortly into the journey her car veered off the road onto a verge.
Post mortem examination results received by the family show that a heart problem was the most likely cause of death.
Her husband, Bert, 52, said his wife was his 'whole world.'
He was shocked to receive a phone call telling him Mrs McGuire, known as Babs, had been involved in an accident.
He said: "I kept phoning her and phoning her, saying, 'Just pick up, Babs, so I know you're alright. Please.'"
He was told she had died after travelling to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to be with her.
He added: "We only needed each other. I don't understand how she could be here one minute and gone the next, but she will always be with me."
His daughter Nicola said she is baffled by the crash as her stepmother had been struggling to shake off a cold since March, but had been generally well.
She said: "Babs was very good at looking after my dad and they were keeping healthy. They were weighing each other every day to make sure they were in good shape.
"The night before she had had a sore back but it was eased with a hot water bottle and ibuprofen so we didn't think it could be anything too bad.
"She was very sensible - there's no way she would have driven if she had any concerns."
Mrs McGuire had gone for blood tests at her GP surgery and was due to receive the results on the day after she died.
Nicola added: "It's just not fair. If there was anyone who did not deserve this, it was Babs. She was just the loveliest, kindest woman.
"When my sisters and I first heard about her we thought, 'who's this woman? A girlfriend?' but she came in with her bobbed haircut and her suit on and she was just so, so lovely.
"If there was anyone who would be able to find fault with Babs it would be the three daughters of the man she was marrying - but there was absolutely nothing bad to say about her.
"She lit up dad's world and she looked after him."
