Volkswagen workers are gathering to hear new chief executive Matthias Mueller brief them on the fallout from the company's emissions scandal.
Thousands were expected at the meeting at the vehicle giant's sprawling headquarters in the northern German town of Wolfsburg.
Volkswagen AG faces fines and lost sales after US environmental regulators found it had installed software to cheat on diesel vehicle emissions tests.
The scandal prompted the resignation of long-time chief executive Martin Winterkorn. Mr Mueller - previously head of the Porsche division - was appointed to succeed him on September 25.
Chief employee representative Bernd Osterloh is also expected to address the meeting - a previously scheduled gathering that has taken on added urgency since news of the scandal broke. Officials said it would be closed to the media.
