THE Jim Clark Rally will take place on forest ground again in 2016 following last year's tragic events.

The Scottish Borders race - which saw three people killed when a car came off the road on May 31 last year - will miss out on forming part of the British Rally Championship (BRC) as a result.

Rally organisers could not be sure they would secure the necessary closure orders to the return to the roads so have been forced to withdraw from the tournament.

A statement on the Jim Clark Rally website states: "Hopes that this annual event could revert to a closed public road format have been delayed due to continuing investigations, with a ruling from the Lord Advocate’s office not expected until sometime in 2016.

"That time frame leaves the organisers with no choice but to delay plans for a resumption of their closed public road event until 2017."

BRC manager Iain Campbell also confirmed the event's withdrawal from the championship, adding: "We hope they'll be back on the roads in 2017."

Iain Provan, 64, Elizabeth Allan, 63 and Len Stern, 71, were killed at the rally in 2014.
